This exhibition focuses on Savannah’s medical history during the war, and specific medical techniques and methods that were un use when over 60,000 Union troops descended upon the city. Artifacts showing surgical and pharmaceutical practices of the day enhance the story of how the war quickly advanced modern medicine.
This exhibition is located on the west wall of the Historic Classroom, located on the 2nd floor of our Main Building.
Silent film star, Lawrence Semon, began attending Massie School at the age of 11, at the turn of the 20th century. While in Savannah, he often delivered stage performances and magic shows at venues around town, earning him the nickname “boy wonder” amongst locals. He is best known to fans of classic cinema for his performance as the Scarecrow in the 1925 silent film version of The Wizard of Oz. Learn about Larry's turbulent life and his legendary career in this temporary exhibition.
